Actors of Galactic Squad
It’s the early 1950’s and Director, Lawrence Flowers has laid the foundation for the future of Science-Fiction movies. The Galactic Squad serial would go on to inspire the likes of George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Glen A. Larson.
Flowers’ dream was to create something like nothing else. His first step was to assemble a top-notch cast, featuring movie star and lady’s man Buster James as the male lead, with the beautiful, rising starlet Irene Bennis as the female lead, and comic genius Casper Branom for comedy relief. Then there’s muscle man Mike Connors and teen heart-throb Jim Corray to round up the Squad.
Lawrence also cast character actor Richard Wood as the evil XOR, dashing Victor Barthalomew as President Galaxia and the beautiful Jean Cooper as Princess Galaxia was the icing on the galactic cake! And we cannot forget Julia Spencer as Lieutenant Brenda, with that dramatic death scene!
Rounding up the forces of evil were Clark Donahue as henchman Tarmac while Buster James’ stunt double Nick Stanze portrayed Xor’s additional minion Protor.
Robot Monkey and Mergatroid received much controversy due to the fact they were played by child actors. Effects artist Robert Blaes commandeered his 2 daughters Lily and Caitlin to play the Galactic Robots because, “They were the only ones that could fit in the outfits and they were always handy on set and were running around. It was easier than baby sitting”.
